In a large bowl start with 2 3/4 Cup flour.

2 Cups of sugar

2 Teaspoon of baking power

1 Teaspoon of salt

1 1/2 Teaspoon of baking soda.

Mix together until well combined

Add 1 cup of milk. I used 3.25%

1/2 Cup melted butter

2 Eggs

2 Teaspoons of vanilla

Mix together until smooth. Do not over mix.

1 Cup of boiling water

This will be very runny. This is what you want.

divide into 2 bowls.

Add colour until you like the look of them. I used purple gel colouring for both but I made one darker by adding more gel. You can use food colouring but it will take more to get a dark colour.

Mix until colour is fully combined

Pour into prepared 8′ pans. Use oil or parchement paper on the bottom of the pan

Bake at 350 for 30-35 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean

remove from pan and cool completely before decorating.

Using the parchment paper, the cakes flip out of the pan easily.

Vanilla Buttercream

American buttercream is one of the classics and most used buttercreams. It is sweet and has a velvety feel. It is one of the easiest buttercreams to make with a few ingredients.

2 cups of room temperature butter.

Beat with a paddle hook until the butter is light and fluffy, and the butter turns white. Be patient as the butter takes a while to turn white.

after the butter is fluffy and has turned while add 2 teaspoons of vanilla while beating

add 1 cup at a time and mix until well mixed. The last cup add a little at a time.

scrape down bowl and mix well until smooth.
